Kristie continued her education, receiving her Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Kentucky. She completed her internship at University of Central Oklahoma and became a Registered Dietician.
Kristie moved to Baltimore, Maryland to work at Franklin Square Hospital and University of Maryland Medical Center. As a Dietician, Kristie's area of expertise included Pediatric nutrition, critical care nutrition, nutrition during chemotherapy, and outpatient diabetes education.
Kristie desired a more hands approach to patients and returned to school to become a Physicians Assistant. She received her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Towson University, and became a Certified PA.
Kristie has had the opportunity to work in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, and Urgent Care. Kristie is interested in working with patients, especially in the areas of diabetes, gynecology, heart disease, and dermatology. She joined Colonial Internal Medicine Associates in 2010 as part of the North Stafford Team.
Kristie is involved in her local community and serves in leadership roles as the Membership Chairman for the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants, as President Elect for the Fredericksburg Area Service League, and as President of the Fredericksburg Area Medical Society Auxiliary.
Kristie and her husband, Dr. Ken McDowell live in Fredericksburg with their three beautiful children, Ryan, Hannah, and Isabell. Kristie enjoys cooking, outdoor activities, running and most importantly, time with her children.
Colonial Internal Medicine Associates is to set the local standard for treating illness in an empathetic and supportive environment. CIMA goes beyond the basic needs of patients in guiding them through complex medical problems as the patient's main health care professional, focus on the whole person with an emphasis on disease prevention, and take ownership of a patient's total medical care by serving as their chief advocate.
