An Interview with Dr. Bethanne Elbert

Dr. Elbert was born in upstate New York but moved to Virginia when she was five years old. She grew up in Burke, VA before it underwent the explosive growth in recent years. When trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life she knew that she wanted to be able to help people. After spending some time volunteering with a doctor at Fairfax Hospital she decided to become a physician.

After graduating from Lake Braddock High School, Dr. Elbert started what would become a long educational career at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology there and graduated with Distinction. She then completed both her medical school education and Internal Medicine residency at the University of Virginia as well.

After finishing her training, Dr. Elbert joined Madison Family Medicine in Madison Virginia. She soon moved to Spotsylvania after her husband started working in Fredericksburg. For several years she commuted to Madison and continued to work there until 2007. As her family grew, Dr. Elbert joined Rapidan Medical Center in Locust Grove to be closer to home. She joined Colonial Internal Medicine Associates to offer her patients the stability of a larger medical group and focus on primary internal medicine as our changing health care environment continues to evolve.

Dr. Elbert lives in our community and is married with 4 children. She enjoys gardening, needlework, hiking and spending time with her family.
